A DOLPHIN washed up on the shores of the Isle of Wight yesterday evening.
Members of the public spotted the marine animal while walking along the cliff top from Chale to Atherfield.
Stephan Voigt, Isle of Wight British Divers Marine Life Rescue (BDMLR) Area Coordinator and Marine Mammal Medic confirmed the coastguard and a medic were on the scene.
Updated 12pm
Marine mammal medic Jacqueline Robertson said the dolphin is currently on an inaccesible area of the beach and cannot be moved.
The coastguard have scaled down the cliff near to Whale Chine to assess the situation.
She said: "The coastguard are talking to their head office to see what they want to do.
"It may even wash out with the next tide.
"It's fairly rare for a dolphin to wash up on the Island, but we are seeing it more and more. You get them now and again when they are passing through."
