I have known the Asher family for fifty five years. His sons, Charlie and Will, were childhood friends of mine, and I spent a lot of time in the Asher family home in Shanklin. Andrew Asher was a true gentleman and a remarkable Isle of Wight historian. I attended a presentation of his a couple of years ago and was amazed at his capacity to speak in great detail about historical events on the Island. Andrew was not using notes or a teleprompter and his memory, in his early eighties, was inspiring.
My condolences to all of the Asher family in this time of grief.
