Richard Campbell HOPE
HOPE Richard Campbell Richard Hope, The Isle of Wight's first resident chiropractor has died at the age of 84, in Ryde. Born in 1938 in Coventry, and orphaned at a young age. Richard attended the Sir Roger Manwood school, Sandwich, and joined the Royal Air Force as a commissioned navigator in 1957. His postings included the then Solent area RAF Air-Sea Rescue service, on Whirlwind helicopters, participating in many successful offshore rescue missions between 1963/1967 A love of the sea inspired Richard to embark on a voyage circumnavigating the globe on a 30ft catamaran-Motley one, in 1968, with his wife Sally, and his 3 daughters, Kerry (10) Melanie (5) and Samantha (3 months of age). Reaching New Zealand in 1971 the family settled for a time while Richard prepared his onward journey. The return trip from New Zealand to the UK took 7 months in 1972; a significant and memorable achievement of realising his long-held ambition of a solo voyage. On arrival back in the UK Richard undertook his college training to become a chiropractor, in the Anglo-European College of Chiropractic, Bournemouth, graduating in 1979. The family relocated to Ryde, on the Island. He set up his first clinic in Ryde, in 1979. He was based there until his retirement. Many residents will recall the many successful outcomes of their care and treatment at Dr Hope's hands with his holistic and caring approach to his craft. Richard Hope will be missed greatly by his devoted wife Sally, his three children, seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren, and by the many people his adventurous life touched.

So very sorry to hear this. I was one of his first clients as a chiropractor in Ryde. I was only about 12 and scheduled to have quite intensive surgery. My father heard about Richard and he treated me at least twice a week for years free of charge as I was under 16. He saved me from any surgery of which I will forever be grateful. Such a lovely man. Sending heartfelt condolences to his family x
