Following on from Christmas football, all three of our Isle of Wight Wessex League clubs are back in action again today (Saturday, December 30).

Cowes Sports have enjoyed the longest Christmas break of any of our Island sides and will hopefully be raring to go against today’s opponents Hamble Club.

The Yachtsmen’s last outing, on December 23, saw them come away with a 4-0 victory at Westwood Park against Fareham Town.

Cowes are now just four points behind Brockenhurst, who occupy the final play-off position, with two games in hand over the mainlanders.

Meanwhile, title contenders AFC Stoneham smashed Hamble 5-1 in their last fixture.

Kick-off is at 3pm, across the Solent at The Abbey.

Newport will be confident heading into their match against struggling AFC Aldermaston after a convincing 4-1 win against rivals and landlords East Cowes Vics at Beatrice Avenue on Boxing Day.

Port’s opponents sit in 19th, with their last league game on December 23 being a 3-1 away defeat at midtable Clanfield.

Interestingly, the Berkshire-based club clocked up the most miles on their travels in Division 1 last season.

This time, Newport are the ones making the nearly 150-mile round trip.

Kick-off at The Mettal Stadium is at 3pm.

Vics, meanwhile, welcome second-place Downton, whose last result saw them claim a point in a 1-1 draw at home to Ringwood Town.

The Islander’s Division 1 campaign is still looking very promising, finding themselves three points behind the play-off positions, with a game in hand on the team above.

Kick-off is at 3pm at Beatrice Avenue.
