LEADING young Isle of Wight rowers Carter Horrix and Louis Sheasby could not have prepared any better for next month's British Junior Championships, by producing a great win at the Thames Valley Park Sprint Regatta.
The Shanklin-Sandown Rowing Club pair were using the event in Reading on Saturday as a 'sharpening up' exercise in readiness for the championships.
The racing, over 500m, saw them contest the J15 double sculls in the morning session and, having secured a comfortable semi-final win, they repeated the feat in the final — setting the fastest time of the day, for a memorable double.
The boys then raced in single sculls for the afternoon session, with Carter
progressing through to the final in a close semi.
However, a 'shipwreck' off the start in the final left him with a lot to make up, eventually finishing third.
Louis had a good row in his semi-final, but lost out by the tightest of margins to the eventual winner from Christchurch.
