VENTNOR came up short against Hook and Newnham Basics to exit the county final of the National Village Cup on Sunday.
Chasing down a total of 185, Ventnor finished 20 runs short.
Zach Wells (3-45) and two wickets each for Ben Attrill, Rob Snell and Toby Noyes was just reward for their efforts.
But a disappointing start to their reply proved costly in the end.
Four wickets fell for only 40 on the board and, despite the spirited efforts of skipper, Ben Woodhouse (34), Zeph Wells (48) and brother Zach (24 not out), Ventnor were eventually dismissed for 165.
