RYDE Rowing Club are set to host the fourth Hants and Dorset Amateur Rowing Association Championship Regatta of the season at the weekend.

Fixed for May 20, this year’s regatta marks the 44th anniversary of a Hants and Dorset ARA Championships Regatta being held off Appley Beach.

The first was held in June, 1977.

The very next day, Shanklin will host its own championship regatta, capping off a weekend of rowing on the Isle of Wight.

Expect a packed-out programme of races – just shy of 20.

A total of 95 crews and scullers are set to compete.

The event is free to attend, and the best vantage point can be found on the sea wall by the Canoe Lake.
