East Cowes Town Council's bid to restore the town's historic Town Hall has been backed by Isle of Wight MP Bob Seely.

The Victorian building, dating back to 1897, urgently needs exterior and roof repairs.

The council requested £150,000 from the government's Community Ownership Fund, which supports refurbishments that ensure long-term sustainability of community assets.

This intervention aims to secure ongoing use for community events, private hire, and council meetings.

The Island’s MP has written to Levelling Up Minister, Jacob Young, in support of the bid.

In his letter, he said: "As you know, one of the aims of the Community Ownership Fund is to help community groups such as the East Cowes Town Council maintain assets that are important to the community.

"The East Cowes Town Hall is a significant asset to the public and the character of East Cowes. I am happy to offer the bid my full support."

The Community Ownership Fund is a £150 million fund over four years to support community groups to take ownership of assets that are at risk of being lost to the community.
