Drivers heading in and out of Newport on the Isle of Wight have been hit with double traffic woes this morning (Wednesday).

The three-way temporary traffic lights at Downend are not working again, with temporary lights in place.

Drivers reported the main lights, near the Hare and Hounds pub, being stuck on green yesterday (Tuesday).

Last night, Island Roads took to X (formerly Twitter) to say they were all back up and running.

However, this morning motorists reported them being off once again. Drivers said it was "total chaos as no one knew what to do."

The lights were also out over the weekend.

Island Roads has said contractors are on route to investigate the issue.

A spokesperson said: "We apologise for any delays and assure motorists we are working to fix the problem as soon as we can. We will provide updates as we have them."

Meanwhile, further towards the town, there are temporary traffic lights on Long Lane, near the roundabout at the top of Staplers.

Openreach is carrying out works.

Drivers are urged to allow extra time for their journeys.
