The Isle of Wight carnival season is upon us and dates for this year's Sandown events have been revealed.

Sandown Children’s Carnival and Main Carnival both take place on Saturday, July 27.

Sandown Illuminated Carnival, meanwhile, will be held on Wednesday, August 28.

Sandown Carnival has been in existence since 1889 and this year seven girls and boys have been chosen as the town’s royalty.

Up to £300 is also available to help people put together an entry in this summer's parades.

Sandown Carnival chair, Paul Coueslant, said: "We’re proud to be one of the Island’s oldest carnivals and can’t wait to get our new season under way in July.

"We’re always keen to help anyone with a good idea for their parade entry and there’s still time to apply to the fund we make available each year."

Entrants need to take part in two of the town’s 2024 parades and must apply by 4pm on Friday, May 27.

Anyone can apply, with priority given to those in the PO36 postcode area.

The carnival also organises Sandown Bay Regatta over the weekend of August 10 and 11.
