A popular Isle of Wight hotel has been named among the best in the country by Tripadvisor – featuring prominently in this year’s Travellers’ Choice Best of the Best Hotels Awards.
Tripadvisor, the world's largest travel guidance platform, is celebrating this year’s highest rated hotels around the world, according to its global travel community.
Among those to feature prominently is Shanklin’s Haven Hall Hotel, which took three awards.
The five-star hotel, off Howard Road, was named number six in the UK’s Luxury Hotels list, scooped third place in the UK Small and Boutique Hotels list, and number 21 in Europe.
Tripadvisor rated the Shanklin hotel as third in the UK in the small hotel category, which places it first in England, with first and second being in Scotland and Wales respectively.
The hotel is run by a small team led by owners David and Arielle Barrett.
Reacting to the news, David said: "It is all due to the extraordinary staff who work at Haven Hall."
David and Arielle gave the building a multi-million-pound renovation in 2017, and it now regularly features in magazine articles as a must-visit destination.
Built in 1908 as an Edwardian Country House, Arielle and David bought the property as a 'retirement project' in 2013.
Neither intended to embark on a massive building renovation project, but both had previous experience with property development and restoration.
After four years of renovations, Haven Hall opened as a hotel.
It boasts 14 en-suite bedrooms, including seven suites with living areas and kitchens.
Recent guests at the hotel include Colin Firth and his family for their third visit, Sol Campbell, Fiona Barratt Campbell and family, Peter Crouch and Abbey Clancy, Jimmy Carr, Dan Hannan and Chris Heaton-Harris.
The number one top hotel in the world for 2024 was Brazil’s Hotel Colline de France, a boutique hotel renowned for its personalised service and French elegance in the middle of the mountain town of Gramado.
For three consecutive years, the 34-suite Hotel Colline de France has been ranked in the top five.
Four UK winners made the top ten global list for B&Bs and Inns.
The Toulson Court in Scarborough came in at Number two for 2024, knocked off the top spot it retained for three-years-running by Voile Bleue, Mauritius.
Highcliffe House on the Exmoor coast in Devon came in at Number six, followed by Gloucester House in Weymouth, at number eight.
New entry for this year, The Berburry Hotel, Torquay, secured tenth.
