Chris Reed, Fishbourne:

My visitors were booked on the 1pm ferry, on Sunday, to return to the mainland.

They needed to go earlier and on Saturday, went online to change their return to 11am. There was a charge of £81 which they baulked at.

On Sunday morning, they rang and having waited for ten minutes for someone to answer the phone, were told their new time was possible and there was a charge of £30 for this amendment.

This is not a service, it is extortion. And what’s more, a variable extortion.

Their booking cost £200 and this amendment, which costs Wightlink a flick of a computer button and took a minute, brings their travel costs to £230.

While my visitors rubbed their eyes in disbelief, Wightlink’s owners, Basalt Infrastructure Partners and Fiera Infrasctructure in Canada, rubbed their hands in glee.

What a company — what a rip-off.
