POLICE on the Isle of Wight are now investigating a car crash into a popular fish and chip shop in a residential area — acting on a report they received 14 HOURS AFTER it happened.
The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary say they did not receive a report about the incident, at the Ocean View chippy, on Newport Road, Upper Ventnor, until 12.38pm today (Saturday).
Police say the collision happened at around 10.30pm last night (Friday).

"A car collided with a building and caused damage to a property on the road," a police spokesperson said.
The collision with the steps, at the entry to the premises, was badly damaged, with broken masonry and car debris and glass, including the vehicle's bumper, at the scene.
There was also debris from the accident strewn across the road, causing a potential hazard to other road users.
When the County Press contacted the police this morning, they were unaware of the incident.
They received a report from the public almost two hours after the story was published.
Officers have launched an investigation and anyone with information is asked to contact 101, quoting 44240028499.
