A SECTION of safety barrier on Medina Way dual carriageway in Newport, damaged by a car fire earlier this year, is to be replaced this week.
The work on the southbound section will be undertaken at night as it will require the closure of the southbound lane.
Island Roads' structures team will also be using the closure — between 7pm and 11pm tomorrow (Tuesday) and on Wednesday — to undertake an inspection of the Medina Way flyover, a bridge.

A diversion will be in place via Dodnor, Riverway, St James Street and the High Street during the work.
An Island Roads spokesperson said: “The barrier replacement is essential safety work, but we hope that by undertaking the replacement overnight, we will reduce the impact on road users.
“By bringing in our structures team to do their inspections under the same traffic management arrangements, we will also avoid the need for a subsequent road closure.
“As always, we would like to thanks motorists in advance for their co-operation and understanding.”
