A CONVICTED paedophile faces a possible jail term after flouting the terms of the Sex Offenders' Register.
In November 2021, a Shrewsbury Crown Court judge handed pensioner Brian Gandy, of Folly Lane, Whippingham, a 12-month prison sentence, suspended for two years, for making indecent images of children, which included a number of extreme pictures.
Appearing at the Isle of Wight Magistrates' Court this morning (Friday), Gandy admitted failing to comply with the notification requirements of the Sex Offenders' Register, thereby breaching a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) and Sex Offenders' Notice, by not registering a new credit card with the police, between August 31 and October 3 last year.
Gandy was at Newport Police Station on October 3 last year for interview, as part of the requirements of him being on an SHPO, when he told an officer he had been issued with a Barclaycard credit card on August 31.
Gandy, 73, failed, therefore, to comply with the terms of the order, and subsequently broke the terms of his suspended sentence order (SSO), by not registering his card with the police within three days of receipt, said Liz Miller, prosecuting.
In November last year, Gandy, appeared before an Isle of Wight Crown Court judge after he breached the SHPO.
Gandy had bought an internet-enabled mobile phone on eBay, but had not registered the device with the police within three days of receipt.
On that occasion, Gandy was subsequently fined £500, with £425 costs and a £200 surcharge.
Magistrates refused jurisdiction of the case, as they felt their sentencing powers were insufficient to deal with Gandy, bailing him to reappear for sentencing at the Isle of Wight Crown Court on March 9.
