AN ISLE of Wight man will stand trial later this year, accused of punching his ex-girlfriend and smashing her front door window.

Paul Bishton, of High Street, Shanklin, appeared before Isle of Wight magistrates on Friday (January 27).

The 31-year-old is charged with assault by beating and criminal damage in Brading, on January 19 of this year.

Mr Bishton is accused of punching his ex-girlfriend in the head and smashing her front door window.

Michael McGoldrick, defending, said Mr Bishton’s presence, verbal interaction with the victim and criminal damage were not disputed, but he denied punching her.

Mr Bishton saw his case adjourned for a trial on April 20 at the same venue.

He was granted conditional bail.
