A driver has died after suffering a medical episode at the wheel of a Land Rover Discovery, say police on the Isle of Wight.

The driver's next of kin have been informed, after the incident this morning (Monday, January 2). 

The force has issued a statement on Facebook this evening, following the road's earlier temporary closure.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary was called to Latimer Road just before midday.

Southern Vectis confirmed its buses were diverted for a time, as the result of the road's closure.

The vehicle was recovered just after 2pm.

Police said: "Our thoughts are with the family at this difficult time."
