A TWO-car collision on the Downs Road could see the road closed for several hours - and a driver has been taken to hospital after suffering a medical incident.

There was conflicting information from the police who initially said no serious injuries had been reported, then reported the accident had led to life changing /life threatening serious injuries.

However, the police have since clarified that a Suzuki Jimny driver has been taken to hospital with suspected serious injuries but remains in a stable condition, after suffering a medical incident.

Police were called at 2.31pm to the collision at the junction with Knighton Shute, involving a Suzuki Jimny and a Ford Fiesta.

UPDATE 7.50pm: Sgt Radford, Isle of Wight Police, said the injuries to the driver are not thought to be serious.

Recovery has been arranged for the vehicles an the road will open soon.
