An Isle of Wight town council is stepping up efforts to combat the growing issue of dog fouling within its community.

Ryde Town Council says It is committed to ensuring that public spaces remain safe and clean for all residents and visitors.

Recent observations have shown an ‘alarming increase in instances of dog fouling’ on Ryde streets, parks and footpaths, the local authority said.

Working in collaboration with Isle of Wight Council Environment Officers, the town council will be conducting regular patrols to identify and address incidents of dog fouling.

If pet owners fail to clean up after their dog, they may face stringent penalties, including a £100 Fixed Penalty Notice or even a fine of up to £1,000.

A spokesperson for Ryde Town Council said: “We can upon all residents to join us in our efforts to maintain a clean and pleasant environment in Ryde.

“By responsibly disposing of pet waste, we can ensure that everyone can enjoy our public spaces.

“PLEASE… bag it and bin it! You can use any bin to place your dog poo in, there is no excuse!”

You can report dog fouling to be cleared via the Island Roads website by clicking the ‘report it online’ button.
