Island Savoyards are back on stage at Shanklin Theatre this month, with the musical comedy, Me And My Girl.

With music written by Noel Gay and story and lyrics by Douglas Furber and L. Arthur Rose, it had its first successful run in the West End in 1937 and, since then, has been revived several times on a London stage.

Audiences will meet Bill Snibson (Rob Bingham), a Lambeth costermonger (basically, he sells goods from a handcart), who unexpectedly finds himself to be the new Earl of Hareford.

His newly-discovered aristocratic relations are, naturally, horrified and try to educate Bill into the ways of the gentry.

The sticking point is his cockney girlfriend, Sally Smith (Alice Burton-Jones).

The result? Chaos.

Hanna Nixon appears as Lady Jaquie, Simon Apsey is Gerald, Dianne Aspinall is the Duchess of Dene and Paul Stevens is Sir John.

The show is directed by Peter Reed, with Steve Burton as musical director and choreography by Maurice Kachuk.
